Xeon Cluster Policies FAQ

Are there any user disk quotas in place?

Yes, see the Files systems web page for quotas and how to display your current home directory disk quota and usage.

If you need more than your home directory disk quota, use shared scratch directories for short-term storage of files. Scratch directories are purged on a regular basis.

I accidentally deleted files in my home directory. Is there any way to get them back?

As noted on the File systems web page, NCSA does daily backups on home directories, so the files can be restored from backups. Send email to help@ncsa.uiuc.edu with the full pathname of the files and the dates when the files were intact.

Is there any disk purge policy in place?

NCSA's purge policy is described in the File Systems web page. Note that the scratch directories are not backed up.

Home directories are not purged and are backed up on a regular basis.

My files in my scratch directory are disappearing. Can I get them back?

No. As noted on the File systems web page, the shared scratch filesystems are periodically purged based on the size of the file and the time since last access. These files are not backed up. Permanent storage of your files is available using the UniTree archival storage system. See the File systems web page for details on permanent file storage.
